Don’t know where to start when purchasing a Rinnai Hot Water System? We have put together some FAQs for everything you need to know, including models, prices, manuals and more.

What type of Rinnai hot water unit is recommended?

Rinnai have three types of hot water units – Continuous flow, hot water storage and solar hot water systems.
Continuous flow hot water systems

Rinnai continuous hot water systems heat the water as it is needed:  You could run the hot water tap 24/7 and it wouldn’t run out! They are also smaller and an efficient option in terms of both gas and cost. Rinnai has the Infinity range of continuous flow hot water units all have at least a 6.1 star equivalent energy rating.

Price point: Between $1,000 and $2,500 (unit only)

Hot water systems

Rinnai hot water storage systems include gas or electric storage systems and heat pumps. Gas / electric storage systems can be installed inside or outside and come in a variety of sizes – from an under sink 25L unit to a massive 400L unit. The Rinnai Enviroflo Heat Pump uses the same fittings as a standard electric hot water system and is an environmentally friendly choice, as it provides great reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Price point: Between $500 and $1,500 for hot water storage systems and between $3,500 – $4,000 for heat pumps (units only)

Solar hot water systems

Rinnai solar hot water systems are the future of hot water – they are highly efficient and help reduce your carbon footprint. Solar hot water systems also come with an electric or gas booster, to ensure there is hot water even when the sun isn’t out. There are significant costs upfront for the installation for the different elements – storage tank, solar panel collector – but in the long run, they are the most energy and cost efficient.
Price point: Between $3,500 and $6,500 (units only)

We recommend using the Rinnai Hot Water Selector function on their website to help you choose which system is right for you.

How do I get a hot water system installed?

Your new hot water system should only be installed by a licensed plumber. If your old hot water system is being replaced, the plumber will be able to disconnect the old tank, drain it out, wheel the new one in, connect it and fill it.

Prices for installation vary based on the type and size of the hot water system, if you will be installing it inside or outside, if your house is single or double storey (for solar hot water systems) and if any additional plumbing needs to be done as part of the installation, such as installing a new gas line.

Common issues with Rinnai systems

Rinnai is a favourite Aussie brand, and it’s for good reason – their products are reliable and cost efficient. They offer warranties on their products – some up to 20 years – which is a strong indicator of quality.

The issues you might see in a Rinnai are the same you’d see with any brand of hot water system after 7 – 15 years of use: leaks, worn thermocouple sensor, thermostat issues or a dripping relief valve. These can all be fixed by a licensed plumber, who can get you back to having reliable hot water as soon as possible.
